Whether you are happy with the outcome of the election or not; it’s clear the next four years look wildly different than the last four.

Of the more than 20% of AIA New Mexico members who responded to our 2016 questionnaire, we learned that more than 80% of respondents believe advocacy is the top issue for AIA New Mexico. In response, we are offering our inaugural conference and panel discussion about how to advocate and why it matters. If you care about the results of this election, pro or con, learn how important your voice as an architect is in making change happen. Learn how to advocate for your community, your profession, and our shared surroundings.

Join us for a presentation and roundtable discussion from three different vantage points on why architects have a unique and powerful voice.

- J.D. Bullington, AIA NM Lobbyist, will discuss the current state issues affecting New Mexico in the upcoming 60-day session, as well as the impact of the recent election on state policies;

- Michaele Pride, AIA, NOMA, professor of Architecture at UNM SA+P and Associate Dean for Public Outreach and Engagement, will describe the positive effect that advocacy can have on our communities and how we can strengthen our voice;

- Trey Wheeler, AIA, NCARB, President of AIA Tennessee and partner in Cogent Design in Chattanooga, will discuss the importance of developing an advocacy infrastructure that is resilient and scalable for all levels of government. He will also look at the potential benefits of setting up a Political Action Committee (PAC).

Registration - $45 for AIA NM members, $75 for non-members. Deadline for registration is by midnight, Wednesday, Dec. 7th.

All speakers will be live at the Albuquerque location. Q&A participation will be available by webinar at the two remote locations of Santa Fe and Las Cruces. Make sure to tell us at which location you’ll be attending.
